UCSC’s Center for Research in Open Source Software (CROSS) was selected to be a mentor organization for the 2018 Google Summer of Code (GSoC). This means that qualified students can get paid to hack on distributed databases, storage, and logging, smart storage devices for genomics, and more this summer with CROSS and Google Summer of Code!
GSoC is open to university students from all over the world and aims to introduce students to open source software (OSS) development. Accepted students are paired with mentors from participating organizations and gain exposure to real-world software development. These students project span a duration of three months and include a stipend for successful participants.
GSoC efforts align closely with CROSS’s mission of being a cradle for successful OSS projects and cultivating the next generation of OSS leadership. By participating in GSoC, CROSS aims to expand the Center’s community of developers and extend the reach of CROSS’s innovative open source projects. CROSS also sees GSoC as an opportunity to identify and attract talented students interested in building their future careers in OSS.
