CROSS Programs

CROSS Research Experience Program

The CROSS Research Experiences program provides support for undergraduate and graduate students contributing to CROSS incubator projects. The goal of the program is to seed contributor communities and community infrastructures of existing incubator projects while teaching incubator fellows to effectively lead and delegate.

Open Source Education

CROSS has supported the creation of course work at UCSC that aims to increase the pool of talented students familiar with open source software. These courses include class projects that frequently seed new research projects. CROSS also hosts guest lecturers on topics specific to open source software. Beginning in 2020, CROSS also hosted a special workshop series on Commercial Open Source, facilitated by Dr. Dirk Riehle

GSoC Mentor Organization

CROSS was selected as a mentor organization for the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) in 2018 and 2019. GSoC is a global program focused on bringing more student developers into open source software development. Students work on a three month programming project with an open source organization during their break from university. In Spring 2020, CROSS also plans to apply for the Google Season of Docs, which focuses on bringing more technical writers into open source communities.
